Event timeline that shaped Millennials

Generation Y has witnessed many major events since they childhood. There were very tragic, but also we could see some positive changes that affected our lifes. Here's some examples of events that shaped Gen's Y value system the most:

September 11, 2001
The bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City was the most devastating attack on U.S - 2,819 deaths in one tragic day. While this day was important in all of world's history, it was important for Generation Y because it taught us to value life. This shaped our modern day belief of the work / life balance. Because of September 11, 2001 we cherish our lives, families, and friends in a way that is uncanny to other generations.

 2003/2004  Introduction of social networking
Since their introduction, social network sites such as MySpace, Facebook, Cyworld, and Bebo have attracted millions of users, many of whom have integrated these sites into their daily practices. Social networking sites became hugely successful for Generation Y as it provided everything we wanted. We are able to chat to anyone around the world, share our pictures and videoes etc. It allowes us to be ''connected'' 24/7 - and that is essential for Gen Y.

2007 Innovation in technology (Apple products)

Smartphones have secured a strong place in our lives. We take them everywhere with us, 24/7–even to bed. Smartphones are already an extension of us, an important limb to our body. If phones are taken away from us even for a day, we feel naked, like we can’t function as well without it. Apple products have been the chosen method of communication. Smartphones now allow us to stay connected to the internet 24/7, we can connect through social networking sites and blogs wherever and whenever. Millennials rely totally on their Iphones, Ipads and ipods - all those products became the most influential invention of the decade; and they show no signs of slowing down.
